Two weeks ago, we featured the latest (and long-overdue) addition to our Pros We Love list — a wedding professional credited with not only an association to an award-winning employer and a fierce spirit of uniquely-tailored customer service but also the distinction of a title as a Something New Bride, the Director of Catering of Old Carolina Barbecue Company, Mrs. Leslianne Love-Lake.
The story isn’t *quite* over, though — we’ve shared the story of her professional accomplishments, but — I must confess holding a little something back: in just a few days, on April 6, 2014, Mr. and Mrs. Lake will celebrate their very first wedding anniversary! A little under a year ago, DJ AJ9 served as Master of Ceremonies for their modern celebration. Something New Entertainment also provided amber ambient uplighting design to compliment the venue’s brick interior as well as a custom lighted monogram.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, LA and Brian!!! Special thanks to Vicki Lantz of Vicki Lantz Photography for all of the photographs used throughout this article.
April 6th has always been a special date for Brian and Leslianne, and — as I share the details of their April 13, 2014 wedding reception at the beautiful Canton Cultural Center for the Arts — I’ll also share a little bit of their Love Story:
Their paths first crossed at through their respective jobs in January 2007. Leslianne made successful moves to win Brian’s company account, and something more began to develop between the two of them. Shortly later, the two began work closely planning a benefit for the March of Dimes, together — an charity that Leslianne still works to support through her work on the annual March of Dimes Signature Chef’s Auction.
On April 6, 2007, they made a plan for their first “official” date.
Five years later, to the day, on April 6, 2012, Leslianne and Brian travelled for a vacation at a Resort and Casino, only to find upon arrival that a LIMO had been arranged for them by the resort — surprise! As they loaded in to the limo, a little blue box landed in her lap! This was inside: (see engagement ring pic, with Brian’s wedding ring, right.)
On April 6, 2013, they got married in an intimate, private ceremony!
By the way — that makes April 6th, 2014 their first wedding anniversary, as well as the 2nd anniversary of their engagement and 7th anniversary of their first date, for those of you who are “keeping score!”
To celebrate their nuptials, a week later, they gathered their closest family and friends together at the Canton Cultural Center for the Arts for a modern wedding reception with focus on the fun.
Like many Something New Entertainment Couples, LA and Brian wanted a unique celebration that was truly reflective of who they are as people. While (for many brides and grooms) that may still mean inclusion of many of the “traditional” wedding special events, it didn’t for the Lakes. For them, a formal bridal party entrance, cake cutting, first dance, etc. all felt a little bit “forced,” and they preferred a laid-back timeline without a lot of compartmentalization. Their dessert table by the WestSide Bakery and food stations by Old Carolina Barbecue Company and sister company Baja Pizzafish reflected this relaxed vibe, too.
An element they definitely did want to include, though — especially with all the April 6th tie-ins — was a telling of their Love Story (you got to read a *few* excerpts from it, above), which AJ9 executed as part of their Grand Entrance, as well as a moment to thank all their guests… before they brought the PARTY out!!!!!
What are they jamming out to? The bride had some pretty specific requests:
Because there was not traditional dinner service, just tons an tons of eat-at-your-own-pace food stations from OCBC and Baja PizzaFish, we started the evening without any traditional “dinner music,” because it just wasn’t Leslianne and Brian’s style — no Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Elvis, etc. — opting instead for a more Alternative Nation vibe with Coldplay and Dave Matthews Band on heavy rotation, plus Passion Pit, Muse, Ben Harper, Dashboard Confessional, Radiohead, Mumford and Sons, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Snow Patrol, and more.
