Is THIS the Next BIG Wedding Cake Cutting Anthem?

Wedding trends come and go, but — every once and a while — wedding DJs across the country will notice that a song comes along so perfect for a certain special event that we see it SWEEP through our request lists in a joyful streak of victory, proving they’re contenders who are here to stay.

Recent examples?  How about the way Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” took the Bouquet Toss by storm, bumping Cyndi Lauper (the reigning queen of the bouquet toss) and “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” off their flower-encrusted throne?  Cyndi’s still going to around, for sure, but the newly-classic Beyonce hit will definitely be gracing wedding playlists right alongside her for years to come with the same staying power that”Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” held for (literally) decades before”Single Ladies” hit the airwaves.

10271330_10152589599823482_759396607695269560_oIn the cake cutting realm, “Sugar, Sugar” by The Archies and “How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You” by either James Taylor or Michael Buble have occupied the top spots on the request list for this event, in recent years.  “Cut the Cake” by Average White Band can’t be discounted, either, but…

Last month, Maroon 5 released a single — and a video — that’s got me excited for upcoming requests, this season and beyond.  From their fifth studio album, V, Maroon 5’s “Sugar” is sweet, poppy little ditty with a retro vibe — just enough soul to inspire an “aww” and just enough funk to keep you tapping your toe.

Their video has the Huffington Post calling them “The Best Wedding Crashers Ever,” and you’ll see why.

Here’s their (adorable) video — packed with loads of wedding goodwill from happy brides and grooms who celebrated their marriages around Los Angeles, California on December 6, 2014.  Warning: this is a seriously stupid cute video.

I think it’s definitely got potential for a Grand Entrance or Grand Exit Selection, too, but especially, especially as an upbeat Cake Cutting Song.

What do you think?  Is THIS the next big Cake Cutting Anthem?

You decide, and tell us in the comments!
