Something New has a new look! After a period of super-secretive, surreptitiously covert design workings, we are SO EXCITED to finally unveil our refreshed visual branding design!
First: the inspiration behind the curtain; a sampling of inspiration photos from our Pinterest Design Mood Board:
We set out in search of a brand identity that was distinctively pretty — one that reflected the well-made, custom-crafted, and tailored experience of planning with Something New Entertainment, as well as the sometimes-offbeat, ever-quirky, and even fiercely-independent style of our clients. We also knew that we wanted a nostalgic design with a nod to our slightly-vintage vibe as well as a little nostalgia of our own — incorporation of a signature blue (because Something New has always been something blue!).
Though some form of graphic design is a core component of many of the services Something New Entertainment offers, we also knew that our team was too close to the project to be objective designers ourselves. Our previous custom logo and branding weren’t measuring up. And a stock logo or a logo contest couldn’t hope to provide the kind of specificity we desired. We needed a specialist — a true expert — so we began hunting and tracked a trail all the way to Knoxville, Tennessee (DJ AJ9’s hometown) to Kate Moore of Kate Moore Creative (a boutique design firm known for custom business branding, awesome wedding suites, and hand-drawn illustration).
Kate has helped us to better tell the story of Something New Entertainment, visually and we couldn’t be more pleased to share this design with all of you:
Our new identity includes three separate identity layouts (“logos”) to accommodate a variety of uses. We love that it gives us some flexibility of mood and size while keeping true to our style. Because we’re keeping our same name, our same service philosophy, and our same business structure, it’s not a complete “rebrand,” per se — more like a brand re-fresh! Semantics aside, we love it, and we think you will, too!
Kate’s final design included a new, more subdued palette with a greater variety of hues to create this fresh feel. The new colors include two shades of Charcoal, Vintage Linen, Coral Peach, Goldenrod, and “Perfect Blue” — the result of a lot of tweaking at the request of her apparently very hue-picky, blue-snobby clients (who knew? You discover very strange things about yourself, during a design process, sometimes.).
Kate’s comprehensive proposal included a group of sophisticated and distinctive fonts to help clarify Something New Entertainment designs when we choose to communicate with words. DJ AJ9 has a longtime interest in typography, and Kate’s vision has provided us with a more complete solution to express different ideas than the previous more limited design choices.
Kate also created several graphic accents for use as signatures, tags, and other details throughout our website, in printed materials, and on social media.
A great design has no context without the perfect canvas, and Kate’s vision included several options for patterns and textures to surround the more central design components with simple style.
As you can see, our new look better aligns with our company culture and values, and it is a better representation of what’s special about Something New Entertainment and about the brides and grooms who we serve.
