Vendors We Adore: David Corey of David Corey Photography

We first met David Corey of David Corey Photography at an informal gathering of a photography club (that we tag along with sometimes because of their cool membership), but it wasn’t until a few years later that we first got to work with David at Ellen and Jason’s wedding reception (stay tuned, in two weeks, for a style profile of THAT fabulous wedding) at Rosemont Country Club in Akron/Fairlawn, Ohio.

David is charming — funny, sincere, a good listener and (alright — yes — I’ll say it out loud) a snappy dresser.  He’s a pleasure to work with, and (as the photos in this article and the one that follows will reveal to you) he’s an extremely talented photographer with a fresh, clean, modern take on photojournalism, as well.  David has a way of capturing the joyful spirit of each moment in time in a way that takes our breath away, and any bride and groom would be lucky to have someone like David on their wedding-day production team, capturing moments for posterity.

Read on for more about what makes this awesome Northeast Ohio Photographer — who we adore — tick!

Something New Entertainment Master of Ceremonies Anna-Jeannine “DJ AJ9” Herman: What first interested you in photography?
David Corey Photography’s own David Corey: As a kid I remember my Grandfather showing us slides of his travels and watching my father taking photos with his SLR. Then in high school I worked in a lab developing film. I’ve always been interested and had a passion for photography. I like capturing moments before they pass and sharing them with people.

DJ AJ9: How long have you been photographing weddings?
DC: Since 2011, my first year I trained with a seasoned wedding photojournalist. My background was to shoot portraiture style so when I started David Corey Photography I blended the two styles for photojournalism and portraiture.

DJ AJ9: How would you describe your photographic style?

DC: A blend of photojournalism and portraiture with a timeless feel. I also think my style is always evolving. I look at fashion and the wedding industry as always evolving and changing.

DJ AJ9: What do you enjoy most about being a wedding photographer?
DC: I enjoy interacting and working with people. It’s an honor and a treat to be a part of such an important day!

DJ AJ9: What is the most important consideration couples should make when hiring a photographer for their wedding?
DC: There are three things couples should consider before hiring a photographer: the photographer’s ability, style and comfort level. Find out how much experience a photographer has, look at their past work, and read reviews online before hiring them. Couples should consider what style of photography they are looking for and find a photographer that matches their needs. They should also choose a photographer they connect with and feel comfortable around.

DJ AJ9: What are some ways that couples can prepare for their wedding day to help ensure better photos?

DC: Communication is very important. We provide our brides with a questionnaire to get to know about all aspects of the wedding. Talk with your photographer about any expectations you have. Tell your photographer what shots you are looking for, if there are any extra special details, or moments the photographer may not be aware of. Let your photographer know what the most important moments are to you. Also provide a schedule for the day.

DJ AJ9: What’s your favorite “must capture” moment during the day?
DC: I think the most important must capture moment is the first kiss on the altar. Also the couple’s first dance.

DJ AJ9: What’s the question I’m not asking you but you wish I would, or What’s the question that clients usually don’t ask you but you wish they would?
DC: “Why do you shoot weddings?” I love working with people and weddings are a fun, enjoyable day. I believe photography is an important service. It captures moments that you want to remember forever. Photographs and albums give my clients something tangible that they will have for a life time.

DJ AJ9: What do you look for in a great DJ and what are your DJ pet peeves?  How can your DJ “co-workers” help you, hurt you, or irritate you throughout the day?
DC: The best DJs I’ve worked with interact with the crowd. It’s nice to work with a DJ that is a great promoter for all the businesses involved during the wedding. It is also great to work with a DJ that communicates with the other vendors about what events are coming up next.
