Something New Entertainment’s DJ Anna-Jeannine “AJ9” Herman: What first interested you in videography?
cuff and veil wedding films‘ Doug Kereszturi: I have a background in Music and Video Production however I worked in sales for years. I became interested in event cinematography after my own wedding. I missed being creative and telling people’s stories.
DJ AJ9: How long have you been filming weddings?
DOUG KERESZTURI: I’ve been filming weddings in Cleveland since 2007 with my company Attention to Detail Wedding Films. I just rebranded and cuff and veil wedding films was launched in June.
DJ AJ9: How would you describe your cinematic style?
DOUG KERESZTURI: Simplistic, elegant, and in the moment.
DJ AJ9: What do you enjoy most about being a wedding videographer?
DOUG KERESZTURI: I really enjoy seeing the bride and groom looking their best, surrounded by their friends and family on one of the most important days of their lives. It’s cool to experience that with them and then to be able to retell their story through cinematography.
DJ AJ9: What is the most important consideration couples should make when hiring a videographer for their wedding?
DOUG KERESZTURI: Aside from storytelling capabilities and the quality of their work, I tell every couple to make sure there is a connection with their cinematographer, and that the expectations are set on both ends so there are no surprises as to what the end product is. The customer/vendor relationship should never be forced. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t move forward.
DJ AJ9: What are some ways that couples can prepare for their wedding day to help ensure better video?
DOUG KERESZTURI: Be yourself and don’t sweat the small stuff. Let the cinematographers do their thing and just enjoy your day. We feel the relationships have to be there prior to the wedding day, so our brides and grooms are comfortable with us the day of. It also makes it easier to piece their film together.
DJ AJ9: What’s your favorite “must capture” moment during the day?
DOUG KERESZTURI: Every traditional moment is a must capture and we do catch all of that. We like to film the natural emotion of being newly married. Real emotion is what we look for, like when the groom steals a kiss, or when the bride winks at her husband but thinks no one is looking. Those are moments we love to build a story around.
DJ AJ9: What’s the question I’m not asking you but you wish I would, or What’s the question that clients usually don’t ask you but you wish they would?
DOUG KERESZTURI: More of my advice rather than a question: I always tell my couples to take 1 minute out of their reception, walk away from the guests, and take a look around. Use this special time to take a mental snapshot of your family and friends that are there to celebrate the biggest day of your life. Chances are you won’t ever have these people in the same room again. They are all here for you. Smile!
DJ AJ9: What do you look for in a great DJ and what are your DJ pet peeves? How can your DJ “co-workers” help you, hurt you, or irritate you throughout the day?
DOUG KERESZTURI: The DJ is a critical part of the flow of the reception. They should be a good communicator and be able to read the crowd. They should make it part of their routine to keep all the vendors in tune with the timeline of events as well as the changes if there are any. Fresh breath is a plus too!
I produced my first wedding film in 2007 after years of not pursuing my passion. Since then I’ve created cuff and veil wedding films and what a journey it has been!
Who am I? It all depends on who you ask, but most people will say that I’ll be the one who cracks a joke in a completely serious situation, just to lighten the mood. I have a beautiful wife and two amazing children, Tanner and Jenna, that continue to inspire me every day. I love them dearly. My wife and business partner, Bethany, has assisted and supported me from the start when I had this crazy idea to make great films for cool couples on the happiest day of their lives.
I’m so fortunate to share my passion with couples who desire something fresh, sweet and timeless to tell their story. Today, cuff and veil has become one of Cleveland’s leading Cinematography companies.
