DJ AJ9 and DJ Justin first encountered the lovely and talented Ms. Kayla Schneider of Full Bloom Photography as the photographer for Melyssa and Matt’s rustic vintage chic wedding and reception at Happy Days Lodge just a little over a year ago.

To put it simply, we loved sharing the day with her.  She is such a pleasant, energetic person to be around — charming, funny, and caring.

Since then, we’ve fallen in love with the film quality and storytelling style of her work.  Scroll down to see it for yourself and learn more about Kayla!

DJ AJ9: What first interested you in photography?
KS: As cliché as it may be, I have always loved photography. When I was 15, one of my customers where I worked brought in his grandfather’s Olympus film camera with 4 different lenses and I fell in love with all of it. As soon as I had my license I spent endless amounts of time driving around experimenting with different settings, different types of films and lenses and I knew that this is what I would spend the rest of my days doing. Every drive home from a session or wedding, I am so thankful and in complete awe that this is my life. I feel so lucky to be able to live out my dream every day.

DJ AJ9: How long have you been photographing weddings?
KS: I have been photographing weddings for four wonderful years and have just recently opened an office/studio in Lakewood – I’m so excited for this addition to my business and client experience.

DJ AJ9: How would you describe your photographic style?
KS: Romantic, honest images that are true to the couple’s personalities and love. I capture images with a candid feel while also keeping it a bit light hearted and silly. Some of my favorite images are wrapped up in heavy amounts of laughter 🙂

DJ AJ9: What do you enjoy most about being a wedding photographer?
KS: I love my clients. I love getting to know my brides and grooms, how they met, how they fell in love, how they balance one another and then take their once in a life love story and retell it through images. It’s the best.

DJ AJ9: What is the most important consideration couples should make when hiring a photographer for their wedding?
KS: I should preface by saying that you should connect personally with their photography. How you connect with the style of imagery is extremely important, but equally as important is how you click with the photographer. Hiring someone who you genuinely like is so important! We will be with you throughout the engagement, sharing in the entire experience with you. We will be right by your side the entire wedding day and working closely with your family and friends, and we’ll be with you after the wedding with wedding image delivery and creating your wedding album. If you meet with a photographer whose style you love and also feel like you could be great friends, it’s going to be a fantastic match 🙂

DJ AJ9: What are some ways that couples can prepare for their wedding day to help ensure better photos?
KS: Preparing your wedding day timeline for photos is such an important part of a wedding day, if not, the most important. There is nothing worse than feeling rushed or like you did not have enough time to get the photos you have dreamed of. So, to ease those worries and make for a super smooth wedding day experience, I created a wedding day timeline that I give to all of my clients to fill out prior to the wedding. We then set up a final meeting before the wedding day and iron out all of the details. The most important part of creating a timeline would be to cushion every single part of the day for little things that come up (taking longer to get ready, traffic, uncooperative groomsmenJ). Making time for photography on your wedding day is something you will thank yourselves for, for many, many years, after your special day!

DJ AJ9: What’s your favorite “must capture” moment during the day?
KS: There are SO many favorites but if I have to choose one, I would choose the First Look. First Looks are hands down my favorite part of the day. Nothing matches the excitement of seeing each other for the first time and the embrace (and sometimes tears) that happen immediately following. It was my favorite part of my own wedding day and my favorite to capture for my couples. Plus, how fun is it to hear your soon to be husband tell you how gorgeous you look over and over and over? It’s a pretty great way to start the festivities.

DJ AJ9: What do you look for in a great DJ and what are your DJ pet peeves? How can your Disc Jockey “co-workers” help you, hurt you, or irritate you throughout the day?
KS: Working with Something New Entertainment for Matt & Melyssa’s wedding day was so wonderful and different from many wedding receptions that I have been a part of. Many times I find that the timeline for a reception is not really confirmed with the bride so it is a constant race to try and find the couple and figure out what they want to do next which in turn makes it difficult for me to know where I need to be and when everything will be happening. Right before the reception began, Anna-Jeannine made sure to find me and outline all of the events for the reception so that we were both on the same page and knew what was going to happen and when. They made sure that I was nearby before announcing any new happenings so that I was able to capture it as it unfolded. All of the above are typical pet peeves that were non-existent when working with Something New Entertainment!

About Kayla Schneider: I spend a lot of my time cuddling my ridiculously cute beagle named Bella and instagram-ing way too many photos of her. I love to read. To drive. I love taking spontaneous road trips. I love music. Movies. Art. Decorating. Baking. Meeting new people and making new friends.
