We first met Tami Keehn of Tamarie Photography through an informal wedding vendors club of mostly photographers where we’ve actually met quite a lot of our friends in the industry!  Shortly later, we found out that some of our clients had booked with Tami and we would have the opportunity to work together (yay!).

Tami is a very easy person to be around.  Even with her camera in hand, she seems to somehow be able to see everything that’s happening in all directions without disturbing the moments.  I know it may sound like I’m describing a wildlife photographer, and I have no doubt she’d be great at that, too, but what I’m really identifying is that photojournalistic style.  Make sure to check out more of Tami’s photos in our Event Review of Danny + Kara’s wedding ceremony and reception at the Hyatt Regency at the Arcade in Downtown Cleveland, New Year’s Eve 2012-2013.

Something New Entertainment’s DJ Anna-Jeannine “AJ9” Herman: What first interested you in photography?
Tami Keehn of Tamarie Photography: I’ve always had a gravitational pull towards looking at old photos. I just loved being taken back in time with them. I also have a love of the outdoors and seeing the beauty of Ansel Adams’ work always had me grabbing a camera whenever I headed out in the great outdoors.

DJ AJ9: How would you describe your photographic style?

T.K.: I try to be more photojournalistic capturing moments without being too obtrusive. I also love capturing shots of all the details of the day.

DJ AJ9: What do you enjoy most about being a wedding photographer?

T.K.: I love being able to capture one of the most important day’s in a couple’s lives.

DJ AJ9: What is the most important consideration couples should make when hiring a photographer for their wedding?

T.K.: Have a look at the photographer’s work. Does it really embrace the style you hope to achieve with your images? Are they capturing moments that would be important to you?

DJ AJ9: What are some ways that couples can prepare for their wedding day to help ensure better photos?

T.K.: Pinterest! It’s a great way to pin favorite images that the couple sees online. Then they can share this with me. Also sitting down with me before the big day to go over the timeline of the day and the “must have” images will ensure that we plan the time needed for those important photos.

DJ AJ9: What’s your favorite “must capture” moment during the day?

T.K.: I love to have a couple find a “hidden spot” after they walk back up the aisle for them to have 5-minutes of alone time together (with me, of course capturing these moments from afar.) I find these to be some the best images when capturing the emotions of the day.

DJ AJ9: How do you stay current with your photography knowledge and skills?

T.K.: I am a sponge when it comes to knowledge and want to just soak it all in! I try to watch at least 1 or 2 webinars every month. I attend a national photography conference every year (WPPA), read journals, scour the internet for articles and inspiration; I also keep connected with my colleagues so if ever I have a question, I can just ask! 🙂

TAMARIEAbout Tami Keehn and Tamarie Photography: I’ve grown up in a family were there were always cameras in the hands of my loved ones photographing every moment. Quite early on, I found myself sneaking into a quiet corner to look at my parent’s wedding photos and boxes of old photos at my grandparents’ home. So the infatuation with what could be captured on film came at a young age. I strive to keep my style more photo journalistic and lifestyle. I aim to capture the emotions and energies at their rawest form. I want you and your children and grandchilden to be able to look back at these photos years from now and feel like they are stepping right into the moment. When I’m not out photographing, you can find me running in the Metroparks our hanging out with my friends in and around the Lakewood and downtown Cleveland areas.
