We first met Vicki Lantz of Vicki Lantz Photography when we were working on Brian and Leslianne’s April 2013 wedding reception at the Canton Cultural Center for the Arts. Leslianne is the Director of Catering at Old Carolina Barbecue Company.
We love Vicki for her solid experience over a 20-year career as well as her traditional photographic aesthetic coupled with a quirky style and a fun attitude. Vicki likes to let her couples have fun with their portrait poses, capturing them in unique situations true to their personality. She also likes to play with colors and to capture details in unique ways. Plus: she’s funny — this is a HUGE perk, when you’re considering hiring someone who will be with you almost every moment on your wedding day!
Something New Entertainment’s DJ Anna-Jeannine “AJ9” Herman: What first interested you in photography?
Vicki Lantz of Vicki Lantz Photography: When I was young I loved to photograph everything around me. In High School I worked for a Camera Shop and began working in the darkroom and loved the creativity of it all. 20 some years later, I still love photography.
DJ AJ9: How long have you been photographing weddings?
Vicki Lantz: I have been photographing weddings for 20 years.
DJ AJ9: How would you describe your photographic style?
Vicki Lantz: Artistic Photojournalistic. I photograph every detail while capturing the happiness of the couple and their family and friends.
DJ AJ9: What do you enjoy most about being a wedding photographer?
Vicki Lantz: The energy of the day. This is a very important day for the couple and all of their guests. The day is exciting and happy. I love to share this energy and love and preserve it, so that they can relive the day over and over.
DJ AJ9: What is the most important consideration couples should make when hiring a photographer for their wedding?
Vicki Lantz: Make sure you are speaking with the person who will photograph your wedding. Make sure you love their photographic style and personality. Make sure that they understand what is important to you about your photography.
DJ AJ9: What are some ways that couples can prepare for their wedding day to help ensure better photos?
Vicki Lantz: Sitting down with the photographer and chatting about the timeline, most important photos to capture, important people who will be attending. You should talk to your photographer before your wedding to ensure that know about any last minute special guests and details.
DJ AJ9: What’s your favorite “must capture” moment during the day?
Vicki Lantz: After the ceremony, before the reception, I like to take the couple somewhere alone so they can have a moment to just enjoy their day. This is the most emotional time for the couple and the photos are raw with love and emotion.
DJ AJ9: What’s the question I’m not asking you but you wish I would, or What’s the question that clients usually don’t ask you but you wish they would?
Vicki Lantz: Ask if the photographer has back up equipment. Every professional photographer will have back up equipment. This is a very important day.
DJ AJ9: What do you look for in a great DJ and what are your DJ pet peeves? How can your DJ “co-workers” help you, hurt you, or irritate you throughout the day?
Vicki Lantz: A great DJ will have the party rocking. They will take control and guide the reception. I like to work with DJ’s that work along with the couple, venue, photographer, and videographer. A bad DJ will ruin the party. The DJ needs to consider the couple and then run the show.
